Permissions are funny. Sometimes they can be good enforcers, sometimes they can be seen as hurdles. And sometimes they are expressed in ways to make one go ‘huh’?
Personally, I always try to put clear, thought out permissions around issues that need them.
EX: I need to manage time off, ensure we have coverage for the team – and because some people are subject matter experts or clearance around certain things: I cannot let them take PTO without ensuring those tasks can be met. Therefore I have it setup that when one is taking time off – Fill out a form, I will respond – Alerting my senior staff – as well as giving permission or putting a requirement on it.
So: No Form, No Permission. No Permission and the teammate is in violation of a written policy.
How does one get that wrong?
